Languages, Literacy and Communication
(Cymraeg a Saesneg - Cyflwynir Saesneg ar ddechrau Blwyddyn 3). Mae pedair elfen i’n gwaith Iaith yn yr ysgol: Datblygu sgiliau Darllen, Llafar, Gwrando ac Ysgrifennu. Mae datblygiad yn y bedair elfen yn angenrheidiol i gynnydd addysgol plentyn gan fod iaith yn tanseilio yr holl waith a wneir. Mae ein cwricwlwm Ieithoedd, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu yn meithrin dysgwyr hyderus, amlieithog sy’n gallu mynegi eu hunain yn glir ac yn greadigol. Mae disgyblion yn datblygu sgiliau cryf yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg, ac yn archwilio ieithoedd tramor modern i ehangu eu dealltwriaeth o’r byd. Cyflwynir Codio fel iaith resymeg a datrys problemau, ac mae cyfleoedd i ddysgwyr ymgysylltu â Iaith Arwyddion Prydain (BSL), gan hyrwyddo cynhwysiant a chyfathrebu i bawb. Mae’r profiadau hyn yn cefnogi llythrennedd, hunaniaeth a dealltwriaeth ddiwylliannol ar draws y cwricwlwm.
(Welsh and English - English is taught at the beginning of Year 3). There are four elements to our language work in school: Developing skills in Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing. Development in all four elements is essential for a child’s educational progress, as language underpins all the work that is carried out. Our Languages, Literacy and Communication curriculum nurtures confident, multilingual learners who can express themselves clearly and creatively. Pupils develop strong skills in both Welsh and English, while also exploring modern foreign languages to broaden their global awareness. Coding is introduced as a language of logic and problem-solving, and learners are given opportunities to engage with British Sign Language (BSL), promoting inclusion and communication for all. These experiences support literacy, identity, and intercultural understanding across the curriculum.

Welsh and English
Cymraeg yw prif iaith dysgu ac addysgu ar draws pob grŵp blwyddyn. O’r Meithrin at Flwyddyn 6, cyflwynir pob pwnc drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg, ac eithrio’r pwnc Saesneg ei hun. Mae’r dull trochi hwn yn sicrhau bod disgyblion yn datblygu sgiliau cryf yn y Gymraeg, gan eu galluogi i ymgysylltu’n hyderus â’r cwricwlwm cyfan. Cyflwynir Saesneg fel pwnc ffurfiol ym Mlwyddyn 3. O Flwyddyn 3 ymlaen, dysgir Saesneg fel pwnc ar wahân, gyda phwyslais ar ddatblygu sgiliau darllen, ysgrifennu, siarad a gwrando, yn unol â Maes Dysgu a Phrofiad Ieithoedd, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu. Datblygir y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg hefyd fel sgiliau trawsgwricwlaidd, sy’n golygu bod disgyblion yn cael eu hannog i ddefnyddio eu sgiliau iaith a chyfathrebu ar draws pob maes dysgu. Mae’r dull hwn yn cefnogi datblygiad aml-lythrennedd, gan helpu dysgwyr i ddod yn gyfathrebwyr hyderus, dwyieithog sy’n gallu ffynnu mewn Cymru amlieithog ac yn y byd ehangach.
Welsh is the primary language of learning and teaching across all year groups. From Nursery to Year 6, all subjects - except for English as a discrete subject - are delivered through the medium of Welsh. This immersive approach ensures that pupils develop strong Welsh language skills, enabling them to access the full breadth of the curriculum confidently. English is formally introduced as a subject in Year 3. From Year 3 onwards, English is taught as a separate subject, with a focus on developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in line with the Languages, Literacy and Communication Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE). Both Welsh and English are also developed as cross-curricular skills, meaning pupils are encouraged to apply their language and communication abilities across all areas of learning. This approach supports the development of multiliteracies, helping learners become confident, articulate, and bilingual communicators who can thrive in a multilingual Wales and beyond.

Fel rhan o’n hymrwymiad i gyfathrebu cynhwysol, mae ein hysgol yn cynnig cyfleoedd i ddisgyblion ddysgu a defnyddio Iaith Arwyddion Prydain (BSL) o fewn Maes Dysgu a Phrofiad Ieithoedd, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu. Trwy weithgareddau hwyliog ac addas i’w hoedran, cyflwynir BSL i blant fel iaith weledol, gan eu helpu i ddatblygu empathi, ymwybyddiaeth o amrywiaeth, a dulliau amgen o fynegi eu hunain. Mae dysgu BSL yn cefnogi datblygiad sgiliau cyfathrebu ac yn ategu dysgu iaith lafar ac ysgrifenedig. Mae hefyd yn hyrwyddo cynhwysiant a pharch tuag at y gymuned Fyddar, gan annog pob dysgwr i werthfawrogi dulliau cyfathrebu amrywiol fel rhan o gwricwlwm cyfoethog ac amrywiol.
As part of our commitment to inclusive communication, our school offers opportunities for pupils to learn and use British Sign Language (BSL) within the Languages, Literacy and Communication Area of Learning and Experience. Through engaging and age-appropriate activities, children are introduced to BSL as a visual language, helping them to develop empathy, awareness of diversity, and alternative ways of expressing themselves. Learning BSL supports the development of communication skills and complements spoken and written language learning. It also promotes inclusion and respect for the Deaf community, encouraging all learners to value different forms of communication as part of a rich and diverse curriculum.

International Languages
Rydym yn falch o gynnig Ffrangeg a Sbaeneg fel rhan o’n cwricwlwm ieithoedd rhyngwladol. Trwy wersi hwyliog a rhyngweithiol, cyflwynir y disgyblion i elfennau sylfaenol y ddwy iaith, gan eu helpu i ddatblygu sgiliau cyfathrebu cynnar a chariad at ddysgu am ddiwylliannau eraill. Mae’r dull dwyieithog hwn nid yn unig yn cefnogi datblygiad gwybyddol, ond hefyd yn cyd-fynd â gweledigaeth Llywodraeth Cymru o feithrin dysgwyr hyderus, amlieithog sy’n barod i lwyddo mewn cymdeithas fyd-eang. I ychwanegu at ein darpariaeth, bydd athrawes Ieithoedd Modern o Ysgol Llanhari yn ymweld â ni yn wythnosol i addysgu’r disgyblion.
We are proud to offer both French and Spanish as part of our international languages curriculum. Through fun, interactive lessons, pupils are introduced to the basics of each language, helping them develop early communication skills and a love for learning about other cultures. This dual-language approach not only supports cognitive development but also aligns with the Welsh Government’s vision of nurturing confident, multilingual learners who are ready to thrive in a global society. To complement our curriculum offering, a Modern Languages teacher from Ysgol Llanhari visits us each week to teach the pupils.

Fel rhan o Faes Dysgu a Phrofiad Ieithoedd, Llythrennedd a Chyfathrebu, rydym yn cynnig gwersi codio sy’n helpu disgyblion i ddatblygu sgiliau llythrennedd digidol a datrys problemau. Trwy weithgareddau hwyliog gan ddefnyddio llwyfannau addas fel Scratch a Micro:bit, mae dysgwyr yn archwilio iaith codio wrth wella eu sgiliau cyfathrebu a meddwl rhesymegol. Mae’r gwersi hyn yn cefnogi datblygiad aml-lythrennedd, gan annog creadigrwydd, cydweithio a hyder wrth ddefnyddio technoleg fel offeryn i fynegi a dyfeisio.
As part of the Languages, Literacy and Communication AoLE, school offers coding lessons that help pupils develop essential digital literacy and problem-solving skills. Through engaging activities using age-appropriate platforms such as Scratch and Micro:bit, learners explore the language of code while enhancing their communication and logical thinking. These lessons support the development of multiliteracies, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and confidence in using technology as a tool for expression and innovation.
