Mathematics and Numeracy

Mae Maes Dysgu a Phrofiad Mathemateg a Rhifedd yn darparu’r sgiliau hanfodol i ddysgwyr resymu, datrys problemau a gwneud penderfyniadau gwybodus mewn amrywiaeth o gyd-destunau. Mae disgyblion yn datblygu dealltwriaeth ddofn o rif, siâp, gofod, data a mesur drwy brofiadau dysgu ymarferol ac ystyrlon. Nid yw’r sgiliau mathemategol hyn yn cael eu haddysgu ar wahân - maent wedi’u hintegreiddio ar draws y cwricwlwm. Mae dysgwyr yn defnyddio rhifedd mewn ymchwiliadau gwyddonol, yn mesur ac yn amcangyfrif mewn dylunio a thechnoleg, yn dehongli data mewn daearyddiaeth, ac yn defnyddio cyllidebu a chynllunio mewn prosiectau menter ac iechyd a llesiant. Mae’r dull trawsgwricwlaidd hwn yn sicrhau bod dysgwyr yn gweld perthnasedd mathemateg ym mywyd bob dydd ac yn gallu defnyddio’r sgiliau hyn yn hyderus ac yn greadigol.  The Mathematics and Numeracy Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE) provides learners with the essential skills to reason, solve problems, and make informed decisions in a range of contexts. Pupils develop a deep understanding of number, shape, space, data, and measurement through engaging, real-life learning experiences. These mathematical skills are not taught in isolation - they are embedded across the curriculum. Learners apply numeracy in science investigations, measure and estimate in design and technology, interpret data in geography, and use budgeting and planning in enterprise and wellbeing projects. This cross-curricular approach ensures that learners see the relevance of mathematics in everyday life and are equipped to use these skills confidently and creatively.

Y System Rif

The Number System

Mae’r System Rif yn rhan sylfaenol o gwricwlwm Mathemateg a Rhifedd, gan gefnogi dysgwyr i ddatblygu dealltwriaeth ddyfnach o rifau a sut maent yn gweithio. Mae disgyblion yn archwilio rhifau cyfan, ffracsiynau, degolion a chanrannau, gan feithrin rhuglder mewn cyfrif, cymharu, trefnu a chyfrifo. Maent yn dysgu sut mae rhifau wedi’u strwythuro, sut maent yn gysylltiedig â’i gilydd, a sut y gellir eu defnyddio mewn amrywiaeth o gyd-destunau bywyd go iawn. Mae’r elfen hon hefyd yn cefnogi datblygiad gwerth lle, patrymau rhifol, a’r perthnasoedd rhwng gweithrediadau. Trwy weithgareddau ymarferol a datrys problemau, mae dysgwyr yn magu hyder i ddefnyddio rhifau’n hyblyg ac yn gywir, gan osod y sylfeini ar gyfer meddwl mathemategol mwy datblygedig.

The Number System is a fundamental part of the Mathematics and Numeracy curriculum, supporting learners in developing a deep understanding of numbers and how they work. Pupils explore whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages, building fluency in counting, comparing, ordering, and calculating. They learn how numbers are structured, how they relate to one another, and how they can be used in a variety of real-life contexts. This element also supports the development of place value, number patterns, and the relationships between operations. Through practical activities and problem-solving, learners gain confidence in using numbers flexibly and accurately, laying the foundation for more advanced mathematical thinking.

Algebra

Algebra

Mae’r elfen Algebra o’n cwricwlwm Mathemateg a Rhifedd yn cyflwyno dysgwyr i batrymau, perthnasoedd, a’r defnydd o symbolau i gynrychioli meddwl mathemategol. Mae disgyblion yn dechrau drwy archwilio patrymau rhif, dilyniannau a rheolau syml, gan ddatblygu’n raddol y gallu i ddisgrifio a rhagfynegi perthnasoedd gan ddefnyddio nodiant anffurfiol a ffurfiol. Maent yn dysgu defnyddio symbolau a llythrennau i gynrychioli gwerthoedd anhysbys ac i fynegi datganiadau mathemategol cyffredinol. Trwy weithgareddau ymarferol a datrys problemau, mae dysgwyr yn datblygu dealltwriaeth o sut y gellir defnyddio algebra i fodelu sefyllfaoedd bywyd go iawn ac i gefnogi rhesymu rhesymegol. Mae’r sylfaen hon yn eu paratoi ar gyfer meddwl algebraidd mwy cymhleth yn y camau dysgu nesaf.

The Algebra element of our Mathematics and Numeracy curriculum introduces learners to patterns, relationships, and the use of symbols to represent mathematical thinking. Pupils begin by exploring number patterns, sequences, and simple rules, gradually developing the ability to describe and predict relationships using informal and formal notation. They learn to use symbols and letters to represent unknown values and to express general mathematical statements. Through practical activities and problem-solving, learners develop an understanding of how algebra can be used to model real-life situations and support logical reasoning. This foundation prepares them for more complex algebraic thinking in later stages of learning.

Geometreg

Geometry

Mae elfen Geometreg y cwricwlwm Mathemateg a Rhifedd yn galluogi dysgwyr i archwilio priodweddau, perthnasoedd a thrawsnewidiadau siapiau a gofod. Mae disgyblion yn datblygu ymwybyddiaeth ofodol a rhesymu drwy ymchwilio i siapiau 2D a 3D, onglau, symmetreg, safle, cyfeiriad a symudiad.  Maent yn dysgu disgrifio, cymharu a dosbarthu siapiau, yn ogystal â defnyddio iaith a dulliau geometregol i adeiladu a dehongli diagramau. Trwy weithgareddau ymarferol a chyd-destunau bywyd go iawn—megis darllen mapiau, dylunio ac adeiladu - mae dysgwyr yn cymhwyso eu dealltwriaeth o geometreg mewn ffyrdd ystyrlon. Mae’r elfen hon yn cefnogi meddwl rhesymegol, datrys problemau, ac yn cysylltu’n agos ag ardaloedd dysgu eraill, gan gynnwys celf, dylunio a thechnoleg, ac addysg gorfforol.

The Geometry element of the Mathematics and Numeracy curriculum enables learners to explore the properties, relationships, and transformations of shapes and space. Pupils develop spatial awareness and reasoning by investigating 2D and 3D shapes, angles, symmetry, position, direction, and movement. They learn to describe, compare, and classify shapes, as well as use geometric language and tools to construct and interpret diagrams. Through hands-on activities and real-life contexts - such as map reading, design, and construction—learners apply their understanding of geometry in meaningful ways. This element supports logical thinking, problem-solving, and links closely with other areas of learning, including art, design and technology, and physical education.

Statistics

Mae elfen Ystadegau’r cwricwlwm Mathemateg a Rhifedd yn helpu plant i ddeall y byd drwy ddata. Mae disgyblion yn dysgu sut i gasglu, trefnu a dehongli gwybodaeth gan ddefnyddio siartiau, tablau a graffiau. Maent yn gofyn cwestiynau, chwilio am batrymau ac yn dod i gasgliadau ar sail tystiolaeth. Datblygir y sgiliau hyn drwy gyd-destunau bywyd go iawn - megis arolygon, ymchwiliadau gwyddonol a datrys problemau bob dydd - gan wneud y dysgu’n berthnasol ac ystyrlon. Mae ystadegau hefyd yn cefnogi gwneud penderfyniadau a meddwl yn feirniadol, gan helpu plant i ddod yn ddysgwyr gwybodus a meddylgar.

The Statistics element of the Mathematics and Numeracy curriculum helps children make sense of the world through data. Pupils learn how to collect, organise, and interpret information using charts, tables, and graphs. They ask questions, look for patterns, and draw conclusions based on evidence. These skills are developed through real-life contexts - such as surveys, science investigations, and everyday problem-solving - making learning meaningful and relevant. Statistics also supports decision-making and critical thinking, helping children to become informed and thoughtful learners.
