Mae gormod o amlygiad i ymbelydredd golau uwchfioled (UV) o'r haul yn achosi llosg haul, niwed i'r croen ac yn cynyddu'r risg o ganser y croen. Mae amlygiad i'r haul yn ystod 15 mlynedd gyntaf bywyd person yn cyfrannu'n sylweddol at y risg oes o ganser y croen.

Mae potensial i Feithrinfeydd ac Ysgolion helpu i atal canser y croen yn y dyfodol oherwydd:

• Gall meithrinfeydd / ysgolion chwarae rhan arwyddocaol mewn newid ymddygiad trwy fodelu rôl ac addysg o oedran cynnar.

• Mae plant a staff mewn perygl o gael llosg haul o fewn 10-15 munud i fod yn agored i olau haul cryf.

• Gellir atal canser y croen i raddau helaeth trwy addasu ymddygiad a diogelu rhag yr haul yn ystod y blynyddoedd cynnar.

Prif elfennau’r polisi hwn yw:

• Partneriaeth: gweithio gyda rhieni/gwarcheidwaid, staff a'r gymuned   ehangach i atgyfnerthu ymwybyddiaeth o ddiogelwch yn yr haul a hyrwyddo ysgol iach.

• Addysg: dysgu am ddiogelwch yn yr haul i gynyddu gwybodaeth a dylanwadu ar ymddygiad.

• Amddiffyn: darparu amgylchedd sy'n galluogi plant a staff i gadw'n ddiogel yn yr haul.

PARTNERIAETH

• Bydd diogelwch yn yr haul yn cael ei hybu trwy weithio gyda rhieni, staff a'r gymuned ehangach i wella ein dealltwriaeth a'n darpariaeth er mwyn osgoi effeithiau niweidiol gormod o amlygiad i olau uwchfioled (UV).

• Dylai'r staff ymddwyn fel modelau rôl cadarnhaol a gosod esiampl dda trwy chwilio am y cysgod lle bynnag y bo modd a gwisgo dillad addas ac eli haul.

• Dylai rhieni / gwarcheidwaid sicrhau fod gan y plant hetiau haul, eli haul a diodydd oer yn stod cyfnodau o dywydd twym.

ADDYSG

• Gofynnir trwy lythyrau / cylchlythyrau / negeseuon App i rieni a gwarcheidwaid gefnogi’r polisi hwn trwy annog eu plant i ddilyn y canllawiau.

• Bydd y plant yn cael eu hatgoffa o bwysigrwydd Diogelwch yn yr Haul a bydd staff yn atgyfnerthu'r negeseuon pwysig yn rheolaidd trwy drafodaethau.

AMDDIFFYN

Cysgod:

• Mae cysgod rhag yr haul ar feysydd chwarae’r ysgol ac mae gennym strwythurau dros dro i'w defnyddio yn ystod chwarae tu allan.

• Bydd plant yn cael eu hannog i ddefnyddio'r mannau cysgodol yn ystod amser chwarae pan fo'n briodol.

Dillad:

• Anogir y plant i wisgo dillad sy'n amddiffyn rhag yr haul yn dda.

• Bydd rhieni / gwarcheidwaid yn cael eu hysbysu’n briodol o bwysigrwydd darparu hetiau haul ac eli haul priodol i’n disgyblion yn unol â chyngor elusen genedlaethol canser y croen ‘Skcin’.

• Bydd yr ysgol yn anelu at ddarparu hetiau haul priodol sbâr ac eli haul o safon os bydd plentyn yn gadael eu hetiau gartref.

Diodydd:

• Anogir y plant i yfed mwy o ddŵr mewn tywydd poeth ac fe'u hanogir i yfed dŵr yn ystod amser chwarae yn yr awyr agored.

AMSEROEDD EGWYL A CHYFNODAU DYSGU YN YR AWYR AGORED

Yn ystod cyfnodau o wres / heulwen eithafol, bydd amser egwyl a chyfnodau o ddysgu yn yr awyr agored yn cael eu cyfyngu. Ni fydd disgyblion yn cael eu cadw ar yr iard am fwy o amser nag sydd angen. Bydd y disgyblion yn cael cyfnodau byr o amlygiad i olau’r haul / gwres yn unig at ddiben awyr iach a hyrddiau byr o weithgareddau rhyddhau egni yn ystod tywydd o’r fath.

Too much exposure to ultraviolet light (UV) radiation from the sun causes sunburn, skin damage and increases the risk of skin cancer. Sun exposure in the first 15 years of life contributes significantly to the lifetime risk of skin cancer.

There is potential for Nurseries and Schools to help prevent skin cancer in future generations because:

• Nurseries/ Schools can play a significant role in changing behaviours through role modelling and education from an early age.
• Children and staff are at risk of sunburn within 10-15 minutes of being exposed to strong sunlight.
• Skin cancer is largely preventable through behaviour modification and sun protection during early years.

The main elements of this policy are:

• Partnership: working with parents/ guardians, staff and the wider community to reinforce awareness about sun safety and promote a healthy school.
• Education: learning about sun safety to increase knowledge and influence behaviour.
• Protection: providing an environment that enables children and staff to stay safe in the sun.

PARTNERSHIP

• Sun safety will be promoted through working with parents, staff and the wider community to improve our understanding and provision to avoid harmful effects of too much exposure to ultraviolet light (UV).
• Staff should act as positive role models and set a good example by seeking out the shade whenever possible and wearing suitable clothing and sunscreen.
• Parents / Guardians should ensure that their children have sun hats, sunscreen and cold drinks during periods of warm weather.

EDUCATION

• Parents and guardians will be asked through letters / newsletters / App messages to support this policy by encouraging their children to follow the guidelines.
• Children will reminded of the importance of Sun Safety and staff will regularly reinforce the sun safe message through discussion.

PROTECTION

Shade:

• The playground has shade provided by the school building, outdoor shelters, trees and we have temporary structures for use during outdoor play.
• Children will be encouraged to use the shaded areas during playtimes when appropriate.

Clothing:

• The children will be encouraged to wear clothes that provide good sun protection.
• Parents / guardians will be duly informed of the importance to provide our pupils with appropriate sun hats and sunscreen as advised by the national skin cancer charity ‘Skein’.
• School will aim to provide spare appropriate sun hats and quality sunscreen in the event a child leaves theirs at home.

Drinking Water:

• Children are encouraged to increase their water intake in hot weather and are encouraged to drink water during outdoor play times.

BREAKTIMES AND OUTDOOR LEARNING

During periods of extreme heat / sunshine, break times and periods of outdoor learning will be restricted.  Pupils will not be kept on the yard for more time than necessary.  The pupils will receive short periods of exposure to the sunlight / heat solely for the purpose of fresh air and short bursts of energy releasing activities during such weather.
